LITTLE SAIGON, California.- Má»™t đại úy Mỹ gốc Việt thuá»™c Lục Quân Hoa Kỳ, James Van Thach, vừa được Iraq thăng chức chuẩn tÆ°á»›ng danh dá»± hôm 1 Tháng TÆ° vừa qua, má»™t bản tin của PRWeb đăng ngày 15 Tháng TÆ° cho biết nhÆ° váºy.
Trong bản tuyên dÆ°Æ¡ng do Chuẩn TÆ°á»›ng Lá»±c Lượng Ðặc Biệt Nassir Ahmad Ghanim Al-Ogali, Lữ Ðoàn Trưởng Lữ Ðoàn 3, SÆ° Ðoàn 6, của quân Ä‘á»™i Iraq, ký, được PRWeb trích dẫn, có Ä‘oạn: “Nhá» sá»± phù há»™ của Thánh Allah trong ngày vinh quang 1 Tháng TÆ°, 2008 này, tại Cá»™ng Hòa Iraq của chúng tôi, tôi rất vinh dá»± được thăng chức chuẩn tÆ°á»›ng danh dá»± quân Ä‘á»™i Iraq cho Ðại Úy James Van Thach.”
Tại buổi vinh danh Ðại Úy James Van Thach, Chuẩn TÆ°á»›ng Ahmad Ghanim Al-Ogali cÅ©ng phát biểu: “Các cố vấn quân sá»± của Hoa Kỳ Ä‘ã làm được rất nhiá»u việc khi cung cấp chuyên môn của mình để tiếp tục chuyển giao quyá»n kiểm soát an ninh cho quân Ä‘á»™i Iraq. Trong số này, có má»™t cá nhân mà trong hai năm qua Ä‘ã cống hiến hết mình trong hoàn cảnh công tác rất khó khăn. Và tôi rất vinh dá»± được thay mặt Cá»™ng Hòa Iraq cảm Æ¡n ông.”
Tháng TÆ°, 2006, Ðại Úy James Van Thach tình nguyện đến Iraq trong vai trò cố vấn quân sá»±. Má»™t năm sau, ông công tác tại Tiểu Ðoàn 1 và Tiểu Ðoàn 3 thuá»™c Lữ Ðoàn 3, SÆ° Ðoàn 6, của quân Ä‘á»™i Iraq.
Nhiệm vụ của Ðại Úy James Van Thach là cố vấn, hÆ°á»›ng dẫn và giúp đỡ phát triển những kế hoạch huấn luyện cho các đồng sá»± Iraq và yểm trợ nhiá»u sứ mạng ở chiến trÆ°á»ng. Trong lúc làm nhiệm vụ, ông bị thÆ°Æ¡ng hai lần.
Sau khi hết nhiệm kỳ phục vụ má»™t năm, Ðại Úy James Van Thach tình nguyện ở lại Iraq thêm má»™t năm nữa và được Ä‘iá»u vá» công tác tại Tổng Hành Dinh CÆ¡ Quan Yểm Trợ Iraq và làm việc cho hai TÆ°á»›ng Pittard và Yarbrough trong vai trò sÄ© quan phục vụ và tiếp liệu, giúp thi hành kế hoạch bảo vệ an ninh thủ Ä‘ô Baghdad.
Ðại Úy James Van Thach là má»™t mÅ©i xung kích của 12 Ä‘iểm kiểm soát giao thông giữa Baghdad và Samarra.
Bản tuyên dÆ°Æ¡ng kết luáºn: “Sau hai năm phục vụ tại Iraq, Ðại Úy James Van Thach trở vá» Hoa Kỳ. Nguyện cầu Thánh Allah tiếp tục phù há»™ ông và gia Ä‘ình được khá»e mạnh và thành công. Tôi muốn ca ngợi công sức của ông và ông là má»™t tài sản quý giá của Cá»™ng Hòa Iraq.”
CÆ¡ Quan Yểm Trợ Iraq của Hoa Kỳ tại Iraq hiện Ä‘óng vai trò giống nhÆ° cÆ¡ quan MACV (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam) trong cuá»™c chiến Việt Nam.
Trong má»™t cuá»™c phá»ng vấn vá»›i ông Tommy Nero, sáng láºp viên và Tổng Giám Ðốc V.I.P. NYC, Ðại Úy James Van Thach cho biết lý do ông tình nguyện đến Iraq là “vì chuyển giao công tác an ninh cho quân Ä‘á»™i Iraq cÅ©ng nhÆ° Afghanistan là má»™t bÆ°á»›c quan trá»ng trong việc rút quân Ä‘á»™i Hoa Kỳ ra khá»i hai quốc gia này và để các đồng Ä‘á»™i của tôi có thể trở vá» vá»›i gia Ä‘ình.”
Cha của Ðại Úy James Van Thach là cá»±u trung tá quân Ä‘á»™i Hoa Kỳ John Peterkin, từng làm việc cho MACV tại Việt Nam, gặp bà Ngoc Thi Thach, lúc Ä‘ó là thành viên Ä‘á»™i tuyển Thế Váºn Há»™i Việt Nam Cá»™ng Hòa, và hai ngÆ°á»i láºp gia Ä‘ình năm 1974.
Ðại Úy James Van Thach tình nguyện đến Iraq ngay sau khi tốt nghiệp luáºt tại đại há»c Touro Law School, New York. (Ð.D.)

Revised anti-corruption law promulgated by State leader (28-08-2007) HA NOI — President Nguyen Minh Triet promulgated yesterday a revised version of the Anti-Corruption Law, approved by the 12th National Assembly on August 4, 2007. The new law has revisions to Article 73, which regulates the Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Article 74, which covers the tasks and rights of the National Assembly’s Committee for Justice to supervise, bring to light, and deal with corruption (instead of the previous Law Committee). Article 73 runs as follows: The National Steering Committee is led by the Prime Minister and is responsible for directing, co-ordinating and examining anti-corruption activities nationwide. The steering committees of provinces and cities that belong to the Central Government are led by chairmen of the People’s Committees of provinces and cities. They are responsible for directing, co-ordinating and examining anti-corruption activities of local offices, organisations and units. The Government Deputy Chief Inspector, Le Anh Hao, said the model of the provincial steering committees for anti-corruption is similar to that of the national level committee. According to Article 74 the term "Law Committee" has been changed to "Committee for Justice." The 11th NA gave the nod to the original Anti-Corruption Law on November 29, 2005, and was valid from June 1, 2006. — VNS |

HA NOI — The first national press awards were held in Ha Noi yesterday in recognition of the achievements of Vietnamese journalists and the role the media has played in the country’s development. Three first prizes, 11 second prizes and 19 third prizes were presented to journalists and media groups for their commitment to covering current affairs in 2006. "Vietnamese mass media has brought into full play its revolutionary tradition in the past 82 years and become one of the driving forces behind the country’s development," said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, congratulating the awarding-winning journalists. "The State, the Government, the Party and the public all recognise the crucial role performed by the mass media," he said. Last year was a busy year - politically and socially - and the media had its hands full keeping up with developments in the country. "The Vietnamese mass media is more and more developed. It has helped to improve friendly relations with other countries, promote Viet Nam’s image abroad, and has helped to thwart the activities of the country’s enemies," said Dung. There were 955 nominations from 171 press organisations for awards - 88 of which came from non-media professionals. The 48 winning stories, one of which came from an amateur journalist, covered the whole media spectrum - print, television, radio, and electronic media. "The winning stories are all outstanding. They represent the great effort made by journalists to record social developments in the country, the fight against corruption and the drive to build a better nation," said Dinh The Huynh, editor-in-chief of the Nhan Dan (People) newspaper, who is also the chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists Association. First prize was jointly awarded to four journalists on Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) newspaper for an article that describe the insidious nature of hostile western influences. The four winning journalists were Ho Quang Loi, Le Phuc Nguyen, Ha Manh Tuong and Nguyen Quang Thong. Tran Kham, Bui Trung Chinh and Pham Thi Bang Tam from the Nhan Dan newspaper also received a first prize for a series of articles on the daily lives of factory workers. |
